Proposed Granville lane naming (Hayat Lane)

Picture of Granville laneway (Hayat Lane)March 2024 update:

The consultation on the proposed Granville lane naming is now closed. Thank you to everyone who submitted feedback.

February 2024 consultation:

At the Council meeting on 17 May 2023 (Item C05/23-315), Council resolved to name an un-named lane in Granville as Hayat Francis Lane, due to the significant contributions of the late Mrs Hayat Francis to the local Granville community and Cumberland. It was also resolved to undertake the relevant process to seek approval from the NSW Geographical Names Board (GNB).

Following the lodgement of Hayat Francis Lane naming to the GNB for consideration, the GNB informed Council that the naming does not meet the requirements of the NSW Address Policy and User Manual (Guidelines) as only one given name can be used for commemorative naming of roads.

GNB has subsequently approved Hayat Lane for the un-named laneway.

Community feedback

Council reached out to the broader community to seek feedback before the finalisation/gazettal of the naming. After a name has been gazetted, it will be placed on relevant signs and be made available on official maps.

The un-named laneway is located in Granville as shown below and runs adjacent to the rear of Sympathy Funerals previously owned and operated by the late Hayat Francis and her husband.
