October 2024 update:

The Burnett Street Neighbourhood Centre Planning Proposal (PP-2023-1924) is now finalised and gazetted through Cumberland Local Environmental Plan (LEP) 2021 (Map Amendment No. 6).

The official gazettal of this LEP amendment is available via the NSW Legislation website.


August 2024 update:

The Burnett Street Neighbourhood Centre Planning Proposal was endorsed by Council at the Ordinary Council meeting on 07 August 2024. Council minutes are available via Council’s website for reviewing and can be found here.

The final planning proposal is being for finalisation and gazettal.


August 2024 update:

The Burnett Street Neighbourhood Centre Planning Proposal will be reported to the Ordinary Council Meeting for consideration on Wednesday 07 August 2024. The Council Agenda Papers are now available on Council’s website for viewing. If you wish to address Council regarding the Burnett Street Neighbourhood Centre Planning Proposal, you must first complete a Request to Address Council form and provide the completed form to Council’s Governance team at governance@cumberland.nsw.gov.au by 5pm Tuesday 06 August 2024.

Should you wish to speak, you will be allocated three (3) minutes to address Council on this matter.


May 2024 update:

The consultation on the Burnett Street Neighbourhood Centre Planning Proposal has now closed and submissions are now being reviewed. Thank you to everyone who submitted feedback. 


April 2024 consultation:

We're inviting you to have your say on the Burnett Street Neighbourhood Centre Planning Proposal. 

The Planning Proposal seeks to amend the Cumberland Local Environmental Plan (CLEP) 2021 to support mixed-use development in the Burnett Street Neighbourhood Centre in Merrylands. The proposal request seeks to rezone land from R2 Low-Density Residential to E1 Local Centre, introduce a maximum building height of 17m, and introduce FSRs of 1.4:1, 1.5:1, and 1.8:1.

Project Background

In August 2023 (C08/23-369), Council endorsed that a Planning Proposal be prepared for the Burnett Street Neighbourhood Centre. The Planning Proposal was prepared and submitted to the NSW Department of Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure for a Gateway Determination. In October 2023, a Gateway Determination was issued for the proposal, with further technical studies to be undertaken to support the proposal. The technical studies were completed and the Planning Proposal is now on exhibition for community feedback.

Council values the opinions and feedback made by the community and encourages you to participate in this process for the Burnett Street Neighbourhood Centre Planning Proposal.

The Planning Proposal is on exhibition online from Tuesday 23 April 2024 to Wednesday 22 May 2024. During this time, we encourage you to view the exhibition material in the document library on this page and provide your feedback.

Anyone who wishes to provide feedback on the proposal must do so in writing by 5pm Wednesday 22 May 2024, including PP-2023-1924 as the submission reference.
