May 2021 Community ePetition:

Cumberland City Council is seeking urgent action to upgrade Western Sydney Hospitals.

Over the past two years, Council’s Mayor Steve Christou has written to the NSW State Government including Health Minister Brad Hazzard, urging action to reinstate a palliative care unit at Westmead hospital.

Council needs resident support to ensure action is taken to enable better hospital facilities and services are provided to accommodate Cumberland City Council residents.

At its meeting held on 19 May 2021, Council resolved via Mayoral Minute (Min.1135):

That Council:

1. Support the Mayoral Minute;

2. Instigate through the Acting General Manager a community petition, seeking the upgrade and significant resourcing allocation for Auburn, Westmead Hospital and Westmead Children’s Hospital, including the reinstatement of a dedicated palliative care unit at Westmead; and

3. Following the petition closing, write to the relevant Members of Parliament and the Premier, providing them with a copy of the Petition, strongly advocating for the required upgrades and funding.

Cumberland City Council is urging the community to support this petition to enable Council to effectively lobby the NSW State Government in seeking the reinstatement of a dedicated palliative care unit at Westmead Hospital. Council is also seeking that the NSW State Government allocate significant resourcing to upgrade facilities, and provide funding for additional skilled staffing such as Doctors and Nurses for Auburn Hospital, Westmead Hospital and Westmead Children’s Hospital.

Cumberland City Council is urging the community to support this petition to demonstrate to NSW State Government that the community is supportive of this and wants their voice heard. In accordance with the above Council resolution, a copy of this petition will be provided to the NSW Premier and relevant members of Parliament, urging their support at the conclusion of the petition period.

The Community ePetition will be open for a period of 28 days, allowing the Cumberland Community to support Council in lobbying the State Government. The ePetition will run from Thursday 27 May - Friday 9 July.
